Data wheel replacements

Hey,

I've been searching around on here to see if anyone's had a similar problem and I think I may be close, I just wanted to check and see if what I found might work...

Basically, the data wheel on my 500 got pushed in while it was in my bag (I take good care of it, but it just suffered a blow that was that bit too hard) and now it doesn't turn unless you pull it while turning it. It's do-able but incredibly annoying.

MPCstuff doesn't have a replacement circuit board (always out of stock), but I did find these on this very board :

One of them is exactly what I need, but I just don't know how you'd fix these into a circuit board. So - to round this off :
A. Do you think this is the right thing? ...and -
B. How would you attach these?

Thanks so much if anyone out there can help - it's an annoying problem as everything else on it seems to be working fine. It's just mad time consuming getting to the sub menus and items I need.

Not sure how to get it stuck on there, soldering I reckon. But that looks like a much nicer dial than the one thats in the 500. I finally got the nerve to pull the face plate of my 500 and it turns out that the wonky action of the scroll wheel is not in the OS, its mechanical because of the crappy spinner dial inside. Physically pinching the collar around the pole helped a little but that seems like a crappy temp fix so I was wondering how to go about replacing it myself eventually. Maybe bring the part and your machine into a general electronics repair shop and just have them solder it in for you? Good luck.

Yeah you're probably right - I don't solder stuff but I really think I should know how to. It seems like a skill that needs knowing! Nice one for the advice though. It's definitely good to crack these things open, I remember when I finally cracked the 2000 open and being really nervous but it gives you some idea of what's going on in there.

I'll see what goes on though - nice one once again.
