lightning has struck my brain

so after a lot of bitching and moaning, I still **** hate akai as a company, but I love this little box I've had for about 2 years now....

At first I was like "damn, no wave chop edit/view?" now I love choppin by ear,
the audio thru would be nice but really its peanuts
because of my r3 one set of midi io is fine but.......

now lets say I have a tune, and I have all the "instruments" on different tracks(ie kick on track 1 snare on track 2)
I go to my daw and have to solo each track to track out, and this takes forever,.......the #1 shortfall of the 500 imho.
plus if you track out 1 at a time it does not play well compressor settings etc.

If I only knew how to

design a VST (but probably a rewire-able slave) that accepts an akai project (pgm and seq etc) and had all fx and filters(mpcmaid has this) (shit I dont care **** the fx even)
that would create multiple outs and play your track,rewired into a host daw and one swipe.... boom tracked out.

would this ever be possible?

That's a great idea! Not only for the 500. This would be dope!

Yes it is technically possible, but:

1) You could use any sampler VST for this purpose, so then why do you need to use the MPC? Answer, because it's easy to use and portable- but there is no way you can exactly reproduce the sounds the MPC makes in software (people would always be complaining about how whatever filter sounds "warmer" than the vst one or whatever). Why would you write your track on the hardware then come to mix down and have it sound completely different?

2) All Akai need to do is to improve the MIDI implementation of the thing- making it possible to either mute tracks via MIDI, or for tuned pads to be output as MIDI (currently they are only saved in seq files which are closed format). These improvements would be fairly simple to implement but Akai don't want you to be able to use the 500 for producing actual music, they want you to buy the higher models for doing that.

If they implemented the first of these two features you could set your DAW up to solo and record each track in turn and sync them all up very simply. If they implemented the second feature then you could route the MIDI output through your DAW, filtering individual channels for the ones you want to record. It would also mean you could choose to you your DAW as the sequencer and the MPC as a sampler (capable of using pad tune), but instead this data is not saved or transmitted via MIDI.

I agree, but since Akai won't do shit, then (and man if I could do this I would) a rewireish vst thing would be the next best thing.... the people who think it sound different dont have to use it.. I rough it on the mp-track it and mix the flavor afterwords. But I hate writing a beat on a piano roll, or step sequencer.
it would have to be a wav loading sampler plus a sequencer, that you could just route your DAW to record, you wouldn't actually record a midi track or anything.
kinda like if mpcmaid loaded .seq and had in/out on say 16 tracks at a time.
even something like the JJ sequencer program,(not the os) that you can rewire into a host and track out.

you might have to create a "virtual soundcard" to run audio out of this program and into the new one(creating new ins/outs on your host)
