Got an MPC 500 to start making beats...need software?

I produce rock and acoustic usually but want to tap into producing the genres I enjoy listening to most (house, dubstep, hip hop, pop) This may have been the wrong order in approaching things but for christmas i got an mpc500 and shure 840 headphones from my wife. If i get Reason and connect my midi keyboard will I be set in being able to build sick beats? Any suggestions? Money is limited since this is a side-project

that is up to you.....

learn your mpc first if you don't know reason, you don't want to learn both at the same time. and you don't need reason either.

you produce rock right? you got access to sampling guitars, drums etc. try starting there.

You'll probably want to use the 500 as your sequencer and forget Reason as the sequencer. Use Reason as a sound source though, you can get some great sounds/samples out of it.
