How would I go upon using a keyboard with the mpc?

I'm very new to this, so please don't complain about how I should spend more time on google or some b.s - just help me out please.

I am trying to avoid using software until I get a new computer because currently this computer cant handle much. I've seen videos on youtube where guys have multiple keyboards that play right into their mpc. Would I have to get a midi keyboard to do this and connect right to my mpc? If so, what plugs would be needed?

There are MIDI controllers that simply send MIDI data. Then there are synths and workstations that produce their own sounds and can send midi data to control other gear. Which are you interested in? Where are you planning to get your sounds from?

What do you want and what do you mean by "multiple keyboards played into MPC's"? A MIDI controller to trigger samples on the MPC, or a synth for the MPC to sequence and play patches off of?

You don't need a MIDI keyboard to sample sounds from it, any keyboard will do.

Your question may confuse people, post an example of what you mean.

I suspect you are refering to use of the multiple midi outputs to trigger various synths with one synth also being used for midi input duties?

MIDI was brought up because he didn't specify whether or not he planned on using the keyboard as a sound source or as a MIDI controller, so maybe he actually needs the MIDI functions. Maybe people that bang solely on an MPC could care less about MIDI, but I have 10+ pieces of gear that I may run at any given time and MIDI is the only thing that keeps it all together and I wouldn't talk a beginner out of exploring it at their first chance.

The manual really is your friend.

Be patient and take your time, it's not exactly rocket science.

It much more satisfying (and FUN) when you work stuff out for yourself by trial and error.

Ha, yes the manual would probably be my friend, if i had one. I bought just the mpc used and it came with nothing but the adapter. And though my questions may seem like i'm helpless, I've learned a bunch from this site over the past month. I'll be posting some work very soon.


And what I meant by this question was - I basically want a keyboard to play into the mpc so i can make loops and sequences of piano riffs over the drum beats. So I would just need a keyboard and two 1/4 inch adapters to go into the inputs?

obviously if the inputs are 1/4..yeah thats what you need to go into the mpc.

some people use midi others use just audio cables directly recording into the mpc from their keyboard and record as if it was a sample or whatever from a turntable.
