Pattern Mode?

Does the MPC500 have a pattern mode? I don't have a MPC500 (yet), but I did read through the manual looking for info on pattern mode and saw no mention of it. So is there a mode where the pads can be assigned to patterns and then triggered, or do you have to build a song by selecting each pattern via the screen? I've got an XR20 drum machine that has this feature, and I love it, so I hope the little 500 has it too

If you're coming from an XR20, you will notice that the Akai MPC 500 has a sequence function. This is where you can record a 2 bar, 4 bar, whatever number bar sequence and it will keep looping. You just scroll to the right and create another sequence and you have 2 patterns like the XR20. In song mode, you can assign how many times to loop the sequences, put them into a whole song, and then convert it to sequence, or record it straight from the song mode. It's all there, just under different names.
