hello .. I've been thinking about buying a mpc 500. I have a 2000 (classic), and was thinking of buying a 500 to use in the train ..
never touched or used any, so do not know if practice is always walking around with it. Any thoughts?
(sorry my english, I'm from Portugal.)

I love my 2k .. have a good sound, the pads are very good, easy to work. But next year I'll have little time to be in the studio, and I walk a lot by train. So I think the 500 is a good option to keep making beats.
I go to see some auctions on ebay to see if I can find a cheap 500.

You mean "Travel" not walk. Because if you was walking the train then I'll say you must be superman So you say " I travel by train".

Just remember that the 500 doesn't have soft function keys like the 2000 so expect to be menu diving. Not at all bad though. Its a mysterious machine with great potential as its big brothers but only to those willing to master it.

I use it as a sketch-book to get ideas organized when I'm far at my job or my secret hide-outs. Then I toss the files into my computer and convert them and load them into the MV where I can further get deep with the sounds. Its better than lugging a laptop and controller around.

I think this small mpc have the same "basic" function like the others and have the most important thing I need. Is be portable.. I gonna buy next month maybe.. I hope to be happy with it

One more question, can I open mpc500 projects in the 2000?

Yes, it can load sequences, programs and wav files from the 2000 and XL.

And I can load in the 2k programs, wav files and seq from the 500?

Yup, it works both ways. Files can be transfered back and forth between the 500 and the 2000/2000XL, 1000, 4000, 2500 and the 5000. On the 3000 and 60, I believe only programs can be transfered.
