I would like to ad some things to this. I had a hard time also getting a synth and the mpc500 together... I use it with a microkorg. So the connections are cleared here, Same channel also fine... As we all know the note order is funny on the mpc so, make a clear program for your synth, with the notes aranged, if you want to hit the notes with the pads... and the most important thing is... if you try to play your synth, on a track in the same program wich you have beats and other stuff in it... you will see that if you play the synth the drums and other things wich are asigned to pads also triggered by your synth. This is the second reason you need your clean synth prog. Load it up and in track mode which track you want your synth to be on.. chose your synth prog... this way no other sounds will be triggered... and now you can record your synth into the mpc... and when the bars you have in the sequence starts again... voila!!! mpc controls your synth with the melody you played on the synth... I hope its clear this way... and I hope it helped... If something is not clear ask

ps: also chose midi in track mode in the synth track

Well it originally wasn't working because I didn't have the midi channel set in the track.

Then, when I hooked up in AND out, I had some weird midi loop weirdness going on. I'm not completely sure what was happening. Although I get the same sort of thing when too much automation data is being sent. Like when I record a loop and the automation spills into the 2nd loop. Of course, I should just turn off looping when recording automation.

Although I was kind of amazed automation worked at all. I guess theoretically you could send automation into the MPC to record some of the MPC's functions. Although maybe you could just use the slider on the mpc. Haven't explored that yet as I didn't really think it was possible.

SH201 automates NICELY,, like almost every param

Hi guys, I'm new here and I am struggling with the same problem. I have a SH 201 and a MPC 1000. I tried to hook them up with midi cables so that I can play (trigger) notes on the SH 201 and the MPC will record them and afterwards trigger the recorded notes (sh 201 synth sounds). I have the midi out from the mpc connected to the midi in from the SH. I have the midi out from the SH connected to the midi in from the mpc (I used A and 1). The jacks from my SH are connected to the record in from my MPC and I enabled the play through function so I can play the SH while playing the MPC, this goes quite well.
But I have tried about anything to record and play back the midi data . I changed the channel to Midi channel on the mpc and have tried all the (receive active track)channels on the MPC (but normaly the SH sends his midi trough channel 1). Can someone tell me how I need to configue the midi settings in the MPC (as track, omni a, omni b, ...?)
And do I have to change something in the SH 201?
I tried to hook it up for about 2 hours and I have read both manuals but I don't get it to work. Somebody knows what I am doing wrong or do you have any instructions? Please let me know and excuse me for my bad english!
