Ah man, the 1000 is simple compared to the 500...less menu diving no doubt. Yeah, trackers are weird to me... wish I came up using them...they seem cool.

i mean it at least has a menu. My last sampler, god bless her, the sp-202, was a joy but in no way nearly as powerful as an mpc-500.

i'm not going from a bmw 5 series to a 3 series, im going from a vw rabbit to a bmw 3 series...

How do you actually chop samples on the machine? Any help!?

Dope machine!!Period!! Took a minute to get used to the concepts and jargon as this was my first MPC.I`m glad I stuck with it.In my opinion,they made the machine TOO COMPLEX with TOO MANY options.Half that stuff I would`nt use.My only gripe is the screen size and I wish it had louder volume or a pre-amp built in.

dudes, i **** love my 500. ive had it since 2008, it was my first mpc, but i had been producing on reason since 00' 2 years ago i got a old 1000 that needed work, i customized it did some soldering a pad upgrade blue screen and jjos2xl and i gotta say, i love my 500 way more. the feel of my 500 is just better then the 1000, in my opinion.. i love the way you can preview samples on the card while playing the beat u have sequenced i also love the chopping i can sit and chop on a dime on my 1000, but something about chopping by ear and number helps me come up with more dope sounding beats..for me, i prefer the 500, i can always put the card in the 1000 and chop the sample right on if im having trouble getting the lil extra air out. but if i had to i would totally get rid of my 1000 over my 500 on a side note too, the 500's os is way more stable then the 1000's original os. if it wasnt for jj i would have sold the **** thing right after i fixed it up. akai's 1000 os sucks a huge std infested cock. i was shocked to see how bad it was, the thing would freeze up and crash all the time,,,well at least the 4 times i tried using it, then i was like **** this and tried the free jj to verify it was indeed the shitty akai os causing all the problems.. i think there could be some added features to the 500's os just little things. but for the most part i prefer the 500 over the 1000 and the 2500

The 500 is a dope little sampler. Only upgrade was install mpc-stuff pads and the response is way better and softer than the stock pads. I like that you can filter each pad. A lot of tweaking can be done but needs to be moderate because if you put in too much tweaking, then the sample becomes a lossy digital mess, unless thats what you're going for, then tweak away I say for that blocky Mario Bros. soundscape.

I do like the 48 tracks and the mute groups and track mutes, its like a mini MV which is why I'm interchangable with them. But I do hate that sometimes I hit a pad and another pad plays instead. Makes it difficult to handle during record sequences. I don't like that it doesn't have a true sample loop mode, shift key works but just hitting the pad would be easier than waiting til the whole sample plays to even know the loop is locked to play. Yeah, I know, but I got a q-tip in my ear...
