Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Hey, I'm newly registered to the forum but have browsed it a bit in the past looking for answers. What's up guys.

Anyway, my mpc500 is starting a really annoying trend. I'll be recording tracks in a sequence, and everything is fine. It's played back exactly how I played it. Though sometimes without warning, when I load up the sequence the next time I come to work, it seemingly randomly drops some events in the sequence. This is a ****, it happens without warning as well and I know I have saved the sequences as I had wanted them. Even if I rerecord the parts that were dropped, the same thing will happen to the rerecorded parts... I don't understand. It's a pain to try and remember what it was originally, and I can't think of any reason for this to happen. Do I need to expand my ram or something? What's up?

I also just noticed it's always pad 12, the top right. Also, one time it switch the event from A12 to B12 when I loaded it up. Is this a hardware thing?

EDIT: Yeah, it's definitely pad 12. I was laying down a track and D12 switched to B12, right away when I tried to play it back.

sounds like a hardware issue to me. ive never heard of that, maybe try emailing the tech at mpcstuff.com and asking him.

are you sure your not saving stuff wrong, or changing to a different but simlar program or something like that?

i dont really know what to tell you, that sucks man.

I don't think its a RAM issue because those sequences are stored on the CF card after use. Did you did any changes to the sequence and forgot to save? Always save after any adjustment to sequences, programs etc. Also you might wanna reinstall the OS and/or reinitialize the memory.

Really I love the 500 because its what I wanted from the Roland MS-1 but its little things like that that get me annoyed. Lately, I've been getting issues with pads playing by themselves ruining sequences. If I tap pad 1, pad 4 plays as well

I wish Akai would open source the 500, then JJ can rock the shit out of it. We have done this before too to no avail. Akai will not listen.
