Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

So I'll put together a simple beat using 5 different samples (for example). I set my BPM and make it all on one sequence. Then I select "Save Entire Memory Project". I then take the normal step of seeing if it works by switching it off then back on-IT WORKS. Then I shut it down get some food whatever get back to the MPC an hour later and load the project that I was working on. It loads, I hit play and I got nothing. I've tried these steps multiple times and I'm finding a same routine.

A couple weird things that are going down:

-It loads the correct BPM. I set it at a random say 256 BPM and it will show up at that as opposed to the default 120

-The other weird thing that occurred was when I loaded a project and it loaded a project I had deleted from a previous time

Never had these problems before doing exactly what I'm currently doing which makes me believe my Memory Card is shitting out on me. This is what I'm hoping for anyways.

Anybody had a similar situation?

My firmware is up to speed so no concern there.

Sounds like your memory card. One question. Why is the MPC loading the project with the previously saved tempo weird? Was it not doing that before?

No, it's not that saving the BPM is weird. It just weird that it's only getting half of the project. It'll remember the BPM but nothing will playback.

I never save the entire project. I save the program first.Let's call the program "Fire "Then sequence 1 is called "Fire 1".Sequence 2 is called "Fire 2" and so on.Not saying your method is wrong.I name and save each thing seperately so I can see everything in storage. Stick with it though.

Word. Thanks BK. I'm looking to get a new memory card because I wanted a new one anyways. Hopefully I'll see some progress.

In regards to memory cards, I've found some Akai CF cards and was wondering how legit they were. I ask because I didn't know Akai was making their own specific memory card.

Don't spend the money on the Akai cards. Almost any CF will work. Ive had problems with larger cards though (32GB).

If you save project (some folks swear by it), always save to a new, empty folder. i create a bunch on my PC beforehand.

Alrighty then,

I got a new 2 gig Sandisk CF card and I'm still having an issue. I've been messing with it more and this is how it goes.

Say I load 3 samples on 3 pads. 1-drum break 2-synths 3-vocal sample. I'll structure it with a 90BPM then save ENTIRE MEMORY PROJECT.

I'll then turn off the MPC then turn it back on. I'll select load project hit play and everything goes accordingly. Correct BPM correct samples so on and so on.

So I'll do this 4 more times with 4 completely different sets of samples and drum breaks and save everyone under a different project name. And lets say I did this on 4 different days just to state that I did all of these by having to turn the MPC off.

This is where my problem begins. I have 4 different projects. I'll start on project 1. It loads correctly. I Mess around with that project for a few minutes then I'll want to move on to project 2. I'll load it, it says it loads successfully then I go to play on it and its still showing project 1's BPM. I hit play and the drum break I had loaded does nothing. It's counting the seconds but nothing is coming out of the speakers.

I have found that the only way I can get this to work the right way is if I turn off the MPC and load project 2 it will work. Then if I want to move on to project 3 I have to turn it off again, then back on, it will correctly load project 4.

I'm stating the obvious when I say I don't want to play on one project then move on to another without having to turn it off then back on.

All of this is making this guy feel pretty stupid. I honestly have had no problems understanding how to chop and play samples. Never thought saving the damn thing would be my conundrum.

Any words of wisdom will mos def be appreciated.
