Buying an MPC 500. Some advice?

Thanks. Quite getting the hang of it now. However I cant seem to save default settings. I make the standard sequence 8 bars and change tempo to 88 bpm. User default and "memorize this sq". Restart the mpc but its all gone. Is this some kind of bug? I have the 1.31 OS installed.
