MPC 500 possibly broken?? pls help!!!

hey guys! I m new here, and new to MPCs in general. I just received a MPC500 from a friend of mine for my birthday, but it does not act like on other peoples videos at all. Only the right side of the screen works, and it show only weird characters, doesnt look like English to me. I tried reinstalling the Os (probably succeded, but not sure since I can only see half of the text, and the text is in klingon. Could you please hep?
