just a second ago I was playing a beat, and i thought I went crazy, because I liked it so much. one kick was not in place, so I moved it in stepedit a few ticks further. pressed do it... AND LOST THE WHOLE BEAT!

you're right, but this kind of things should not happen. this was a easy edit.
nevr happened on my 2000XL. I handeld by the manual, pressed then do it, then "system error" was written on the display and then everything was gone. is this a os bug ? it is not the first time something like this happened with the 500. Only the other 3 or 4 times I thought it was my mistake. But now I'm pretty convinced that it isn't. it would just suck if I had to save very time I press a button.

Sounds weird, but yeah save as you go. I learned that the hard way during a power outtage. If you know your on to something hot, save it!!!1

that 'save as u go philosophy' is shaky with the 500 cause it corrupts files if u overwrite them.

it does that only with program & sounds files, not with seq& songs, doesn't it? that is is what I experience with my mpc.


If I edit or record alot, I delete the folder I kept this beat in, take the card out, stick it back in and make a new folder with the same name as the previous one, and save the beat in there.
maybe is this something for the other readers, or maybe I'm just paranoia, and does that whole cardtrick not help at all.

YEA I ACTUALLY DIDNT KNOW WHT IT WAS, I SAVED SOMETHING, LOADED IT BACK UP LATER AND IT LET OUT A SCREETCH OF WHITE NOISE AND FROZE , AND OTHER USERS ON HERE TOLD ME THAT WHEN U OVERWRITE A PROJECT IT CURRUPTS IT SO THE WAY U GOTTA GO ABOUT IT IS MAKE A NEW FOLDER EACH TIME U SAVE AND THEN DELETE THE OLD ONE RATHER THEN OVERWRITE THE OLD ONE, SO U CAN SEE HOW THAT WOULD BE A PAIN IN THE ASS IF "SAVE AS U GO". WEIRD THING IS THE PROJECT THAT THE 500 CORRUPTED AND CRASHES UPON TRYIN TO LOAD , LOADS FINE ON MY 1000

HAPPENED ON TRYIN TO OVERWRITE THE ENTIRE MEMORY OF A FOLDER

Is this a bug or just how they programmed it?
How long does it take before they fix this kind of stuff?
This sounds pretty wack!

its a bug . the mpc 1000 os from akai had similar issues where files would get corrupted when saving or overwriting or things wouldnt get saved right and i might be wrong but i dont think they adressed the bug to this day cause there hasnt beeen any new updates since 2.1 or whatever. the third party jj os saves everything flawlessly everytime so it cant be that hard to figure out i guess akai just doesnt care that much about their customers. yes its very wack but i still think mpc's are the illest machines ever so i'll deal with it.
