Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

When recording my loops is it best to use a new track for each sound?

Also why does the rhythm sometime (mainly complex drum & Bass) not play in time. I use the timing correction but I find it useless and have to turn it off.

:?: Any ideas why?

Cheers

the timing correct won't correct loops that aren't set right- it'll only correct individual hits according to whatever resolution you have your quantize set to (ie: 16th notes, 8th notes, etc)

you can either get your loops set perfect or chop em up into smaller bits which'll secure solid timing and lead to more creative ground breaking

hope that helps

Sorry should have mentioned all my sounds are small samples, however I keep finding the resolution varied.

I am mainly using my MPC to create loops and sequences and I want to be able to set it running while it leave me to be creative.

the only thing that could throw the timing off if you're using chopped samples is extra time within the samples before the actual hits. If the samples are chopped on point and you're using timing correct, things will be tight.

Yeah comes in handy later for muting individual tracks. :D

Or maybe you've time corrected different parts at different settings? Like one day you may time correct somethnig to 58% swing, but then start a new track and set that to 66% swing. If you then go back to the first track, add something new and time correct it, then it could be at 66% from the previous track which won't match up with the tracks you'd originally time corrected at 58%.

Well, incase that's what you've done.

But like proppa said, the samples might not be trimmed properly. I once downloaded some preview samples from mpcsounds.com and even those had gaps at the start. I once bought a 500mb pack of drum sounds off ebay and those samples were all extremely badly edited with huge gaps at the start. If I used those as they were in a track, the track would sound like crap.
