Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

First I put it away, stopped making music, and waited, afraid to try again. Now I hoped it would magically work, spent yesterday writing a song, and can't load the project.

I can try buying different ram, but besides all the little bugs everywhere this one where the ALL SQ&SON.ALL file from an entire memory save has corrupt sequences in it is huge!

It doesn't seem like it'd be the ram because the sequences file is tiny, why would bad ram always only affect that one file? It wouldn't, it'd make the large audio samples corrupt too.

It must be a BUG. It must be writing it wrong to the flash. This makes the machine broken. A trick I can do is save each sequence individually and rebuild the song every time I load, but that sucks.

Where is the solution? Akai? Where are you?

Why would it start working again ?

Possibly

If so, surely it is still under warranty. But a bug does not make it broken.

Try asking them directly. Posting here will not help you. Go to Akai. Rant and rave at them. Demand your money back if the goods are faulty.

I'm not havin' a pop at you, but the answers you seek are not here.

Ya, I figured waiting before would solve it because others have this problem and I expected them to work with Akai and it'd be fixed in the latest OS release.

I just called Akai, and despite what some other threads hinted at, the MPC500 is the same hardware no matter when it was made, there have been no changes.

He didn't sound familiar with the bug, so did no one even contact them about it? I sent him my broken file, try loading it, I get a system error.

hmmm i had a system error recently trying to save a project. i ended up saving it under a new different folder and it worked like that. it confused me caus everything else was saving fine.

try making a new folder and saving it in that

 Despite the save bugs I'm trying to workaround it all and not turn it off until I'm done. But now it decided to go into a weird locked up state where it does nothing, but the cursor blinks, and REC / PLAY / CANCEL LEDs are lit up, and if I hold REC / PLAY buttons the DO IT lights up. But it is frozen and I'll have to power off losing my work.

It is writing incorrectly to the flash card. You can actually see for yourself if you open one that works correctly. Compare it to one that does not using notepad or a text editor.

Very good question. I also sent them my corrupted files and told them the same thing. If you do it then back up the files first. When you see the problem you will wonder how Akai could not.

I found another bug. I was working between song mode, and a sequence that I was modifying the recording of. I'd overdub the track on seq2, then go back to song mode to hear it. If I stopped the song on the next sequence in the step, then hit sequence/track, then I'd be in seq4 instead of 2. Now if I hit undo expecting to undo the overdub on seq2, it'd somehow replace seq4(where I currently was) with seq2. So then seq2 and seq4 would be the same, same name and all. Luckily I had a backup of seq4 I could load into it.

The list of bugs I've encountered is probably over 10 now. I need to think about ditching this thing.

i've had problems loading project after using song mode. i've arranged sequences as a song and saved the project, but after that i couldn't load it. i found out that allsong&seq file was somehow corrupted, so i deleted it and made my sequences again. after that i saved a backup of allsong&seq file to the different folder before doing anything on the song mode, so if my mpc **** it up again i can easily replace corrupted song&seq file by the old one. i haven't had that problem ever since (annoying bug, although)

i hope you understood what i tried to explain, maybe this one helps you.
