Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Ok, it did take a while to get the MPC to recognize it but once formatted it showed almost 8GB empty when connected to Windows XP via USB.

Just thought I would share the good news.

Yes, but when you fill it up the MPC can only see the 2 Gigs, i tried this myself! Windows has directly acces to the card, and therefore it sees all the 8 Gigs. Sorry.

Okay. I will try that as well. I haven't gotten that far as filling up more than 2GB yet.
Can it be formatted to 4 partitions of 2GB by any chance?

it's maybe great to store all that data on only one card,

BUT

what to do when a 8 gb compact flash goes buggy because of mpc500's buggy os?

i'd rather go for many 2gb (or less) CF cards, at least you loose less stuff in case of data crash.

i use fake 2gb ultra II sandisk from ebay.
not sure about their real access speed, but they hold 2 real gb for a ridiculous price.

8GB card swapped over to my Fantom. Bought a 2GB card for the MPC500 instead since it is on sale for $10 until tomorrow at Fry's Electronics.

Problem solved.
