How to copy from comp to 500?

how do i copy my folders and kit and samples from my 128MB Akai CF Card over to my new 1GB Sandisk CF Card? I put in my 128MB AKAI card first and selected everything and clicked copy, then disconnected my 500 and usb cord, then turned it off. Then i put in my 1GB CF card and open it up and clicked on paste....but NOTHING pasted, nothing happened. what am i doing wrong?

Did you format your cf card in mode+load then all the way to the right? It's all I can think of.

what does all the way to the right mean?

i did that the 1st time, but it didnt bring back any folders and when i went to load a sample, the samples were in random order and was not categorized into folders and stuff. all of the samples didnt even come back.

The way I did this was with a memory card reader thats in my computer... My PC already has slots to read CF cards. But you can always use this.

And it worked fine. I just made a copy of the 128 Akai CF then just pasted it all on my 2GB Sandisk.

nevermind.....i just had an ingenious idea. i copied everything from the old cf card to the new cf card using my iPod as a go-betweener. i made space on my iPod and copied all the akai samples. then i pasted them from my iPod onto my new 1gb cf card. lol

(im kinda proud of myself!)

Why didn't you just copy them to the hard drive of the pc or mac?

cuz i already had my iPod hooked up, so i did that instead. i could of have but i did it this way...

Just for you to know DPM, when you select files in a folder and click "Copy" it doesn't mean all these files be copied instantly into RAM. The computer operating system just "remembers" the path to the files you want to copy, then when you click "Paste" the files are physically copied. So, when you disconnected your MPC and then ejected the initial CF card and inserted the blank one, the files you wanted to copy were no longer there, available to the operating system to write them to the new location. Using your iPod is just the same as using your hard drive as a buffer to move your files from one CF to another.
