Next Sequence?

Hello 500 users - I currently have a 1000 and i'm thinking of picking up a second hand 500 off ebay (mulling it over at the moment) - One quick question - does the 500 have a 'next sequence' feature?, and can you switch next sequence from the pads?

Downloaded the manual and had a very quick scan through and didn't see anything - and can't see a button on the front panel for it like to 1000 has.

The MPC500 can't do this!

You can only switch to a different sequence with the dial.

You can hold down the numeric button and hit the pads to enter a specific sequence number. Then, while the machine is running, it would automatic jump to the selected sequence. It's almost like on the 1000.

i feel this a little buggy after quick testing. while not on playback, hitting sequence number w numeric it changes correctly. but when i try the same while running the sequence it goes to the wrong sequence... or am i doing it wrong somehow?

dial is not the most reliable way in live situation, too easy to scroll more than intended.

Hmmm I have no problems when i use the sequence number changes by pads, but i hate doing it y th wheel!

ok, i gotta try it again.

the fresh mpc pads i gotta hit for real so it feels not very fluent in live situation either

but using wheel for that totally sucks. i agree with MCL too.

Also, has anyone noticed that the MPC doesn't like you moving away from, then returning to, a sequence you have just recorded (without hitting Stop then Start)?

Let me explain this better:
I start with 2 pre-recorded sequences, seq_01 and seq_02.

I create a new sequence, seq_03, go and set up a track with a program, and lay down a simple beat. While this beat is playing, I hit 'sequence' and scroll to seq_01... it plays at the end of the current loop. Then I scroll to seq_02... and it plays immediately once seq_01 reaches its end. THEN, if I scroll BACK to seq_03, I get 1 'round' of silence - i.e. the default 2 bars. Then seq_03 starts playing.

This is a bug, surely?

Yes, it has been reported to akai, but they dont care.... I think my next machine will be a roland, the support and updaterate is better there.
