Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

i know people have discussed the polyphony issues on here about the 500 before, but i just wanted to see how you guys work around it.

I know i can record everything on a seperate track, but really that doesnt help, cas i still cant here it all played together. is there anything i can do to my samples so that they'll take up less polyphony? cas of right now i cant get anything to play together, seriously only drums will play fine, that is until i try to put a sample on top of them on a DIFFERENT track, but they will NOT play together no matter what.

Every instrument needs to be on it's own track. Then check your pgms poly/mono settings.

You can only get as much polyphony as the machine will give you. Other than that, bounce down (convert) your mix to stereo wav, and that stereo wav will only take up 2 voices of polyphony and you can add on to that.

I'd suggest that you check out mute groups, man. If the sample you want to play alongside drums is in the same mute group as, say, your hi-hat sample, then it won't play, cause you have a hi-hat playing all the time, right?

You can, however, try setting off the Note overlap option for samples in the programs that aren't normally polyphonic (bass, lead synth, etc.). It's like a mute group but for the same pad: when you strike a pad with a sample with long decay twice withing the sample's decay time it will cut off the decay and start sample playback from the beginning. When Note overlap is on, then the decay won't be cut and the same sample will use two voices of MPCs polyphony.

i love you. plain and simple, it was the mute group thing dude. i knew how to use em but i guess i forgot that you cant play two things in the same group even after there recorded.
