the 500 a future classic?

impossible to know for sure i understand.... but just curious. 10 years down the line will production gurus look back at this thing as a gem? will akai stop releasing it? will it be a rare piece of machinery worth thousands? if so i might go buy a couple and store em away..

It has that potential, and I suspect someone will elaborate more. I would but I'm too sleepy Me and some other forum members have had this discussion already.

i think a classic piece of gear is often defined by the big names that use it / the hits that are made on it. In substitution of this is overwhelming popularity by the masses.

While several mpcs probably fit the bill, i personally can't see the 500 ever doing so. it's simply too niche - more a tool than a workhorse

i think the 500 could definately be classic as long as they dont release a 400, 300, 200, so on....its definately way better than i thought it would be, for sure. but as far as classic, i think that the 2000 would be considered.....imo....i honestly wouldnt buy a couple of them and store them away though...

If the SP-303 can become sought after just because of Dilla so can the 500.

just goes to show for all who bag on the 500 that its not the equipment, its the user. obviously the 500 had some bugs, alot of which akai o rid of, but when dilla goes and makes tracks like those on a 303, you know anything is possible if you got the talent and work ethic.

well i've heard some of the forum members stuff, alotta people are makin dope shit on the 500. i dunno about anyone with a popular name or recognition, but regardless, i've heard some stuff that you wouldn't believe was produced ona 500.

It's not that the 500 isn't capable enough to do the job...But most people who has a few bucks extra move on to a bigger piece of equipment. Or they use a 500 as an aditional mp/ sampler.
Maybe a lot of producers will use it in an endless amount of monster hits, but I think then It won't be used as a centerpiece. Some producers are known for their work they made with THAT type of machine (large pro, pete rock sp1200 e.g.). Because of the hardware limitations, a lot of people use the 500 as a combo, and not as a standalone dedicated workstation. So I'd put my money on the 1K as well (most sold), or the 2500 (more used by pro's).

i just copped me a 500 2 days ago...been interested in it for a while...i messed wit a 2500 a bit but other than that this is my first mpc, making a little transition from software...i hope i can fit this into my workflow as planned....im in the process of putting sounds on the card
