which mini synth with mpc 500?

im lookin for a mini synth under 200 that works well with the mpc 500? any suggestions?

i dont think there are any new synths for under 200. the cheapest i can think of is the microkorg, and they just came out with a new one, the micorkorg XL.

you can probley find a used original microkorg for around $300 though, maybe less

You can always find a used Korg EA-1 for cheap. It's 2 part monophonic. But still a dope little piece for the money.

what is that ea-1 thing? never seen it. im new to this so i need some insight. i pretty much got the mpc 500 down pack but i feel im lacking on the synths. i was looking for a keyboard to hook up to the mpc and make my own melodies. what do you think of the axiom 25?

The EA-1 is a virtual analog synth that came out 10 years ago. I bought one new back then. but after a while, I sold all that gear to buy real analog synths.

The Axiom 25 is only a MIDI controller. It has no sounds. All it does is control synths, MPCs , softsynths, etc. I own an Axiom 49 and I like it.
So if you have any VST/software synths, go for the Axiom 25. Its nice and small and you'll save alot of desktop space with that and the 500. There's plenty of free software synths on the web, and you'll even find them here. Just search for "3rd Optics Top 30 Freeware Thread", and you'll have all you need to get started.

Spend a bit more and go for a Mopho or Evolver by Dave Smith, stunning little bits of kit with built in sequencers.

I have the Electribe Ea1 MkII, good little Synth.

By the sounds of things something like the MicroKorg, Alesis Micron or R3 would suit you,especially if your wanting portability and a good sounding synth for little cash.

The R3 has rapidly dropped in price (i got one for £400),and it has full size keys while still being portable, and the sound engine and editing possibilities are amazing. Not to mention the vocoder is also worth the small price tag. Although the new MicroKorgXL is out, it uses the same engine as the R3, but a cut down version,and also,the small keys might not be to your liking.

In the UK the MicroKorg XL is only £30 cheaper than the R3,so its worth paying the extra for the R3 but I suppose that depends on where your from

Have a look around ebay though,and maybe you'll get a bargain

Man,the microKORG is only 300$ in the USA? Here,in Hungary its about 600 $.

Whats the price of a new microKORG?(not the XL)

i was looking into the microkorg. its like 300 dollars here in the us. but im in the military and in iraq. i need something portable and not too expensive. the sand kills all my equipment and i have to constantly keep cleaning it! so you think the microkorg is the way to go? i think i might settle for that.

Alesis Micron > Korg Microkorg

I have owned a number of synthesizers, and I can tell you that there's a lot you can easily do with an Alesis Micron that you couldn't with another.

Make fat sounds, for instance.

It's the best little synth I ever touched. I got mine for $300 at GuitarCenter.

the alesis micron? ok ill check on the prices. all i need is a good synth for my midrange sound. well i guess ill decide between the korg mikrokorg or the alesis micron. thanx again guys

8th the microkorg. its nice and compact.

you could also look into a bass station thats relativly cheap but mono

yamaha qy 70 not the greatest sounds but cheap.

Casio CZ-101 is underrated.

Evolver desktop but its a b*tch to program.

all but the evolver run on batteries.

they're really cheap as well compared to what you get.

personally i would skip the microkorg, i used to own one but to be honest editing on it was a pita. The sound is nice but you get tired of its sterile character. I flipped it for an sh101 (the analog one from the 80s) and never looked back or missed it.

101 is one hell of a synth.
