Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Hello!

I am currently the owner of an MPC500 that has a very strange and specific problem. I've scoured the internet for any other cases or solutions, but have come up with nothing. So here goes.

When I first turn on my MPC, and load up my samples, it works absolutely beautifully. The pads are responsive and my samples come our just as they should. So I know that the MPC is at least CAPABLE of functioning perfectly. However, after anywhere from 2 - 7 minutes of use, suddenly things go haywire. All the pads seem to suddenly poop out simultaneously. When I press any of the pads, only the first millisecond of each sample plays, resulting in a strange, pitched popping sound. Each one has a different pitch, and is somewhat recognizable as a tiny fraction of the original sample. Every ten or so hits, the full, original sample plays. But then it's back to popping again. The timing seems completely arbitrary.

When I turn the power off and on again, and reload my samples, the MPC goes right to functioning perfectly again, until it arbitrarily stops after 2-7 minutes or so again.

I have absolutely no idea what triggers this. I'm in sequence mode pressing nothing but the pads when it decides to poop out.

Has anyone dealt with this problem in the past? Does anyone have any ideas of how to fix it, or with which component the problem deals with? Should I replace the memory card or RAM? Any advise on the situation would be hugely appreciated.

Thank you,

—Alex

Do you have the 128mb ram expansion? Take it out and try if it helps. Sounds a lot like faulty ram.

Alright, I reinstalled 1.31 and reset absolutely everything I could. It seemed to be better for a little while, but again, after some time, it started popping again. Any other ideas?

Sample stuff in its glitchyness :D

Your CF card might be corrupted, reformat it or reformat a new compatible CF card. Try it now for a dollar, or smoke banana peels for the rest of your life.

Hahaa I just might. Well, I reformatted the card, and it helped for a while. It went longer than it ever has without going all minimalist glitch-pop on me. But I think the card just keeps corrupting itself.

I'll order a new one tonight, and hopefully that should do the trick. I'll let you know how it goes.

Before you order, take it apart and check if the CF card reader's pins are not bent, they should be straight. Usually if a pin is bent, it'll get in contact with another pin and that'll cause glitch haven. You can bend it back but be gentle. One guy ripped his off and it was back to normal.
