Chopping and slicing

Posted this as a follow up to one of my questions in "Getting Started" but since this is 500 related I thought I would post it here too.

My question is can the 500 slice and chop samples the same way that i've seen on Youtube with 1000's 2500's etc? It seems fairly simple on those to just put the sample in and designate how many regions and then make a new program where it assigns to pads for you. Is this how the 500 works or is the chopping and slicing limited on it?

No. All chopping on the 500 has to be done manually....for now at least.

It appears that the 500 is growing in popularity so with that said it's only a matter of time untill akai or JJ does something to allow some sort of chopping on the 500. So for now your only option is to manually adjust the start and end points of your sample and extract each piece...you gotta do what you gotta do.

no it cant chop it up automatically but u can manually take a piece of a sample and "extract" it (make it a new sample) which is what i personally always do even with the 1000 that can chop automatically cause it usually chops it sloppy, and u have to adjust the start and end points of each individual chop manually anyway

I'm picturing you going through an airport security checkpoint, they ask what your MPC500 is, you say 'the sh1t is the bomb'...

Try using a program on your computer called Audacity. its free. You can chop your samples by viewing the actual .wav form. then use the bluebox to create your own mpc pgm. it may take more time but you should def. try it. or just keep practicing manually. get that practice with your ears

^^ I can definitely recommend audacity...but blue box just isn't my cup of tea, I prefer to use the mpc any day to make my programs.

this isn't related to the topic but when tracking out beats is it the same like other mpcs?(tracking to a daw where each sound has its own track)...I'm asking this because i heard the 500 has no mixer....

yea im happy with it for the most part, i just love not being tied down to my crib when i wanna get creative. now i got the freedom to make beats anywhere im at. actually considering sellin my 1000 and going 500 all the way. dont even mind the small display that much. some of the most sought after gear: asr 10, sp 1200 etc... got similar or even smaller screens and u dont really hear people bitchin about those

word cause if i need lo fi drums i'll sample some lo fi drums or do that trick where u sample at 45rpm and then pitch it down to get the 12 bit effect. for real i think the 500 is the joint
