Need help urgently.....

hi everyone im new to the forum and im also new to the whole mpc/making music scene.....

i love music n want to start making beats, ive bought a 500 n have not got a clue where to start.....the manual basicall explains what the butons/pads do n explains all the features......thats great, but it does not tell you how to start making the music......theres no tutorial involved at all......ive looked one the net but there are only tutorials for the other models 1000 n 2000 etc.......

i read something about an mpc 500 bible on here but there no further info.....

can anyone help me......please.....it would be much appreaciated.....

Well once you know what the buttons do, and what the features are, don't you just apply that knowledge and make a beat? I don't really see what your hold up is.

try "QUICKSTART MANUAL..."

I would say....

Sit down, dig in to the manual and the machine, and take it very seriously. This thing isn't gonna make beats by itself. You will need to exercise discipline and work hard to learn your gear. Like any great piece of equipment what you put in is what you will get out.

Abusing people from whom you are seeking help is not a good move.

Ok, let's put it this way. The MPC is a musical tool. It doesn't do anything unless you tell it to do it. Bit like a car. You didn't sit behind the wheel of your first car and expect it to drive you wherever you wanted to go, did you ? No. You took lessons, read the manual, practiced, and eventually got results.

You're not the first person to go and buy an MPC (or any other bit of hardware/software) and not have a clue how to use it, but it might have been prudent to do some advance research, or even get some practice in a store model, or a friends.

The MPC500 manuals are very detailed and well written. Spend time with them and using the samples that came with the unit, practice and learn.

We all had to do the same. We all started the same way. You can't expect to come on an internet forum and have people spell it all out for you. You need to learn yourself. It's the only way you will retain the knowledge. Trust me, I am a trainer by profession, and my students learn best when using the applications. I guide them, give them books to read, exercises to perform with instructions and manuals, and then I allow them to use the app. themselves.

The 500 is different from all the others mainly because of it's limited screen size and the info displayed. The manual will detail the paths and locations of all the functions for you. Otherwise, it does most of what the others do with some minor differences here or there.

I'm sure you've heard the term, RTFM It really isn't just an abusive comment, it's a very important thing to do. We spend a lot of time creating these things. Use them and you will see the benefits.

I hope this will get you started:

1st: Listen closely to your favorite music (dissect it, what sounds to they use. What makes a particular tune stand out... and so on.)

2nd: The MPC is a sampler, so you need to get into find yourself some samples (either sample things your self, or download/buy samples from the web or sample cd or... whatever you like) U can use trim mode to adjust the samples you loaded.

3rd: Learn how to create programs on the MPC500 and how to save them properly then try recording sequences with your programs.

4th: Start out with each sound on a different track. Read the manual again about recording modes, overdub etc. You can use track mutes to play only the tracks your working on and use it to create diffrent version of a track to see which works best.

5th: When you get the hang of step 3 and 4, go to the more advanced features: effects, the slider, step edit your recordings.

5th: When you have multiple sequences try song mode, here you can chain them together to build songs

PS: Everybody has his own way of learning stuf, take your time and experiment. I've been making electronic music for over 17 years, and stil I read my manuals over and over and take time to experiment with my gear.
