Cancelled my MPC-500 order.

has anyone noticed the lack of press this unit has been getting? No reviews, articles or adverts? which is ironic because the 500 is the most marketable mpc yet!

It just came out... press takes a few months... they have to get the unit, use it, and then write the review. It will be all over magazines soon. The only place in the US you can get one is Guitar Center. They aren't really ubiquitous yet.

In response to all the negative comments... It's a great unit.. Very solidly built, definitely not a toy, and the small screen should not be underestimated. It's actually really easy and quick to use. A very intuitive interface. Everything works just as you would expect it to which can really improve one's productivity. Track mutes are still visible on screen. They've done a great job.

Battery performance is brilliant. I'm still on my first set of batteries. Used at the airport in NY last week for roughly 1.5 hours, then on the plane to Australia for a few hours, at my inlaws house, at home here a few times on the couch, then I put a track together at work the other day during my lunch break, used it the other morning, and the damn thing's still going on the same set of batteries! And these are just some el cheapo batteries I picked up at a bargain store in NY. Ok, I'm getting the battery warning a lot now, but it's still running! This is with the full 128mb, and a 2gb Flash card aswell.

I also have an MPC4000, and to be honest, the lack of features in the MPC500 doesn't bother me a bit.

As for the price.. For what you get, it's killer. Regardless of there being 4 less pads, it's still an MPC. It has all the MPC features you need. For what I got mine for, there's nothing else that compares. I wouldn't even compare it to the 1000 or 2500 because they don't run on batteries, so they're useless as truly portable beat making tools.

If they would have put 4 outs on it...I would have kept my order.

How would you use just 4 outs?

I'm honestly surprised that with all the terrorist stuff going on they didn't sweat you a little about the mpc 500. Did they say anything about it at all? What's protocol for carry-on items these days. I thought they reduced carrry-on items to like a toothbrush or something like that .

4 more including the stereo...like the MPC1000. Stereo for the non drum samples, 1 out for BD, 1 out for hats, 1 out for snares etc. That would do.

Oh yeah, did they ever!! Haha... It was a classic. When you go through security they have these trays you put your laptop on, shoes, back pack etc which go through the X-Ray machine. I figured I better take the MPC500 out of my bag and put it there too. As soon as I put it down, the guy looks at it and asks "What's this?".. I thought I was in trouble and just said it was for making music with. The guy was still freaking out and said he'd never seen one before. I thought yeah, he's probably just used to seeing laptops all the time and had never seen anything like this.. But then to my surprise he said "I've seen the MPC1000, but this is even smaller than that.. It's only got 12 pads!".

Next thing, he tells me he has the MPC2500, leaves his post and follows me all the way around the other side of the X-Ray machine asking all these other questions.. "You bought this here in NY?, How much was it? How long has it been out?", etc, etc. Then I told him it runs on batteries and I planned on using it on the plane.. He was spinning out about that! Anyway, had to go.. couldn't be talking all day there. Funny thing was my wife got busted at the other X-Ray security check for having deodorant in her bag. They confiscated it.

Finally checked out the 500 today... it is very cool. I may be back to be interested...could make a great studio sequencer for my MicroX...and also a great **** around machine for the couch.

Where did you check it out at??
