Firstly, you can already use Record mode without stopping Sequence playback.


These are my most desired features of those listed and reasons for wanting them -

* Ability to save Filter Settings - Multimode filter is useless without this

* Filter Envelope - For sweeping synth like sounds. Always sounds great.

* Ability to trigger sample recording from a MIDI note - So the the 500 can be used like a multitrack recorder, as samples can then be played back in time from the exact same point the sample recorder was triggered to start at.

* Ability to adjust entire Program volume - For multisampled programs like keyboard sounds. To save editing every single separate pad's volume.

* 1/64 note Time Correction in sequencer + triplets - For stutter edits and tighter programing, or even to manually tweak swing more accurately rather than having to work at double the tempo.

* Ability to edit slider data in sequence edit (pitch, volume, filter) - If we're talking step edit here, pitch can already be edited, as can velocity if it's being used to adjust the volume. Not specifically slider data though. A filter setting is the only real one missing.

* Display of specific Track Numbers (instead of 'M') on the Track Mute screen - This would be good

Nope, the sequencer stops when you are done revording (pressing "DO IT").

Have you even tried this :?

I recorded some live shaker into a mic plugged into the 500 a couple of days ago whilst the sequence was playing. I can`t remember if it stopped playing when I hit 'do it' to save the sample, but it wouldn`t have mattered since I`d already recorded the sample and assigned it.

I matters because i want to be able to use this in live situations, and it stops i just tried it :-(.

i called akai today and told them about the problem with the hp filter not saving. they say they are in the process of fixing this already. so i also asked if their company accepts suggestions for new features and they said yeah, and if enough requests r made it sometimes goes into play that they do it. so with this wishlist we can organize all the things we want and all call akai (401.658.4032) asking for these things. its very possible if enough call!!

from another thread, eimer put me up on "edit velocity" in seq edit. i wasnt aware of this and its almost like a track volume but just with more steps. regardless, thanx for the info, i still want track volume too though.
*also, wouldnt it be awesome if the effects saved with the program??? how hard is that???

i still like the idea of creating a data ramp, showing track numbers in the track mute screen, shift+pad11 is track mute and shift+pad12 is track solo, and etc.

call 401.658.4032 and make suggestions if ur really trying to make something happen.

i think we need to get this list into something of a 'petition' form- at least in the sense of presenting it as: From Users, and MPC Forums members.

any and all on here should add to this list in as concisely and to the point as possible, then we should fax / email / call it in with the hopes that some of these requests will be addressed

* Ability to use Trim Mode without stopping sequence playback

* Ability to increase and decrease data in sequence edit (etc. go from 5% on step one 95% on step three, then it would automaticly create a data ramp in between)

This can already be done, or i dont know what is ment with it.

I think that raising the main output is difficult due to overdrive.

"0db" on the 500 Master Output is considerably lower than "0db" on the other MPCs that i do wonder if this can't be pumped up some.. the output of this unit is Low.

It can't be fixed by software. The output gain is to low. If the software where to boost the output, you would end up with alot of overdriven noise.

Ok I know its been said before. Chopshop, but with a Xplode option like the 3.20/4.0 OS that never came out for the ASR-X.

That option lets you load the sample, hit Xplode and the sample is autimatically chopped @ the Transient and sent to a pad (Automatically make a program in mpcs case) No wave form view needed.
A sensitivity option with the use of the Qlink Sliders and percentage Value Displayed would be a dope add in with that too.

I guess it would be the same thing as chopshop..no ??? lol

Hello all,
-to Akai-: I like to add a lithium ion battery with the possibility of chargeing when plugged in.
What I really like to share with you is how I dealt with the poor pad sensitivity which seems to be a universal feature on the mpc 500. Following my suggestions is of course at your own risk... but works excellent for me, using a silicone molded swimming cap! (this is not a joke).

The point is, the rubber pads are not touching the sensor plate inside, and into the bargain they need a very firm hit to be "pressed" into it. Result: a very high threshold for triggering an event. I found a Japanese site where they change the entire rubber mat with something softer, but this I don't like because I don't trust the rubber they use and it makes the machine look less cool. So this is how I proceeded:

unscrew all screws-technically, this voids your warranty so be prepared. The only 2 screws you don't have to undo are somewhat close together on the back a littlebit more in the middle of the unit. All others: unscrew. gently pul of the slide knob on the front, then lift front pannel (left side first).

take off the grey rubber thingy with the pads. the trick is now to fill in the 12 little spaces between the rubber and the sensor plate. Here's where the swimming cap comes in: these things have thinner and thicker parts, and you need to very carefully tune each pad. Using a pair of scissors, cut adequate size pieces from the cap (about 1x0.5 cm), thickness is what counts, not size of rectangle. Place these on the sensor plate. Replace rubber mat, screw unit together again and try.

You will find that the pads now work at light touch and even the software feature of adjusting pad sensitivity curve starts to make sense. However, if the silicon you put in was to thick, the pad will trigger continuously (giving the impression of not triggering at all) or there may be cross-talk to adjacent trigger zones. If too thin, it doesn't work and the silicon piece might shift away from the center position if you cut it not exactly the size of the gap (which is what I did: better to have it cover only the central sensor zone and not interfere with the "folding" action at the rims of the original grey rubber pads) Silicon thickness needs careful adjustment for each individual pad, and the only way is unscrewing again, and repeating the procedure. Since you can only be sure of the end result when the front plate is secure in place, and adjusting thickness of one pad may influence the adjacent pads as well, it may get tedious and inolves rather a few times of unscrewing and putting back together again. Therefore it is highly recommended you set out with an excellent fitting screw-driver from the start as not to damage the unit too much, and keeping your screws in a good conditition.

One doubt remains in my mind, the plasticizers in the silicon could theoretically damage the unit; so I put a very thin paper film between the silicon pieces and the sensor plate for protection-but what it will look like inside after one year or so I don't know. Anyway, since without this modification I did not use the unit at all, for me it will be worthwile.
