There is nothing wrong with that...but the MPC-500 is still alot more powerful than the SP-404.

Are you serious? What did you think they would make a battery operated MPC out of? Of course they cut back on real-estate to bring the kids a low-cost, portable MPC.

The pads are similar to the 1000 visually...but its reported that the sensor underneath have more in common with the older MPCs and won't break as easy as the 1000.

I understands MPC's logic and marketing strategy, but the price is ridiculous. It looks to me that Akai learned thier lesson with the launch of the 1000 and decided to make all of their money on the front end. As with all of the new MPC's, 6 months from now there will be a bug list 9 pages long on this forum and consumers pissed about their purchase. Which will drive them to purchase another more expensive machine as a result of being unhappy with their purchase that has some guy behind the scene selling a second hand OS that he charges $30 for. Capitalism at its best!!!!!!! No hate on the product, just don't like the fact that it is grossly over-priced for the features. If I was purchasing it as my sole sampler then I would save and hold out for the 1K or 2500. But as I said in my previous post, if you have the money then have at it if it fits your purpose. I have owned the 1K and now have the 2.5K. It suite my needs as I see them. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me.

ok 12 batteries total( I dont know how many the p10 takes) and records which play nice on the train or in car. or a power cord and an internal hardive that can hold what 80 or more records can. a 1000 ro 500 + p10 and records. whats more portable?

one cool thing is if u buy a little vox amp thats battery powered and a mic you and a group of friends could play anywhere... god knows this world needs more street musicians jamming on the street then people mad at statistics so they wont buy it.. i think it opens a whole new idea and it could make those old guys playing three cords on some old guitar and a hermonica have to get the h$ll out of the way!!!

One MPC-500 with the samples already saved on the CF Card makes the most sense. Jesus, use you head. Who in their right mind is going to be carting a turntable, records, and an MPC around as a portable set-up? You sample ahead of time, save it all to CF card, and just make beats with what is on the CF card. This is how I work all the time. Man, no wonder people can't see a use for this machine.

yea they cut back. i know. BUT its not ready. the shit freezes. alot. and about the pads, you gotta pound the shit out of them...now tell me if they dont work good the sensors underneath dont matter. it sucks FOR NOW.
i will cop one later on when it becomes more stable. I NOW AKAI 1ST GENERATIONS OF ANY NEW PRODUCT SUCK. ill wait for the upgrade.

It is cheaper feeling because it is lighter...for use as a portable MPC...which it is. The pads probably didn't have their sensitivity adjusted correctly... this is a function of the OS.

Are you sure that you know how to operate it? If you turn on Full Level, you do not need to pound on anything.

Well..I have a first generation MPC 2500 and 3000...owned first gerneration MPC 4000s and 2000/2000XLs....I was pretty much happy with all of them. Were their quirks with initial operating systems? Yes..but they served their purpose better than anything else on the market. Which is the reason why MPCs have been used for almost 20 years....


Alternatives...you can always purchase similar gear from Roland that may fit your needs....

this seams more like a toy/gimic sort of thing to me more than anything or if you just cant afford a mpc1k and are just starting out. But who would really pay 700/800 on something just so they could make some beats while on the train or at the park. I like how with the 1k i can toss it in my backpack and head to a friends house to jam and for shows, but this dosnt seam to pratcial to me, esp for the price.
