Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

If JJ makes an OS for the mpc500 it will probably end up with mostly the same features as the 1000 and 2500, now that would be sick. (sick meaning good.)

the thing that kinda sucks about the 500 is the screen . u have to scroll thu mad shyt for everything. for example to mute a track on the 1000 u just hit the mute trck button, on this thing since the screen is so small it doesnt display the track in the main sequence window, u have to open the track window, hit parameters and scroll thu like ten different options to get to the mute track function and then turn the data wheel to turn it off,

theres a way around this by assigning different pads to mute different tracks but i havent looked into that yet, still seems like too much work just to mute a
track

as far as the preice tho, (minus the cheap screen) why should it be cheaper, this thing got pretty much most of the capabilities of the more expensve joints and they managed to make it it small and portable packin all that power. i mean im dead broke but i feel that the price is fair. and dont compare it to something like a sp-404 which is a fun little piece, mostly the fx section, but its not even in the same ball game as the 500 as a music making device

To mute a track all you do is hit the track mute button right under pad bank c , then press the pad you want to mute. Pads 1-12 are tracks 1-12 if you want tracks 13-24 press bank B this will give you tracks 13-24 and so on......If I misunderstood you please let me know.

All you guys hating on the 500,while your out and away from your studio I guess you guys will keep yourselves content with the gameboys and PSP's while those that are serious about making music will be doing just that.

Yeah.......it's pretty easy to use once you understand how it works. You can also solo your tracks from the same screen by changing it from'track mute' to 'solo'.

According to this: http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/22/musi ... e-mpc-500/ they already did:

endgadget wrote: Last week, just 48 hours after the MPC-500 announcement, JJ released the first paid-for version of the new OS, briefly having to close their site as too many people signed up to pay them $30, causing their password-generating system to break down.

The MPC Forums website is a center of the MPC universe, notoriously bad-tempered and filled with complaints about bugs and missing features.

nah... not us!

it's like saying " why get a laptop? it's more expensive and it can't do anthing more than my desktop can do. It's a toy, no real artist needs a laptop. what? are they gonna use there computer in line at a grocery store? must be something wrong with him?"

yeah....a portable drum machine is reel stupid, nobody has any use for that. And I bet you'lll never hear a single producer you idolize ever use one
:?
