Order of Folders on CF Card?

Hi Everyone,

I used my PC (windows xp) to make a bunch of folders on a CF card for my MPC500. Basically to keep different song projects in, and numbered the folders 1 through 20. On the PC the order shows 1 through 20 correctly, but browsing through the folders on the MPC the order of the folders is completely out of wack!

Can anyone tell me what order it shows the folders in? It's funny, my Triton puts folders in a strange order as well. What's wrong with alphabetical?!

put a zero in front of the single digits?

Good tip, I don't think that's it though. As an example, here is the order the MPC is showing folders 1 - 20:

I'm doing a little testing right now, and I'm thinking that the MPC goes by the date on which a folder was first created. Does anyone agree?

well, weird that it's in descending order
but putting an 0 in front of the single digits will at least put all the single digits in proper descending order for you. should, anyway.

It's not that weird that it's doing that. it's jut putting your samples in order high to low. 9 being the highest 1 or 0 being the lowest. But try putting a zero in there like NYM said. . . .

Does anyone else's MPC500 show folders in descending numerical order?!

I think I have this figured out more specifically now-- The order seems to be based on when the folder was created on/copied to the card, newer towards the bottom. Can anyone confirm this?

Also, I think I copied the folders 1 - 25 from a different card, which could maybe explain that descending order.

You can set it up alphebeticly or reveresed it works great.

I believe that the newest file is displayed all the way down the root. The load and save menu was one of the cons on the 500 to me.

I used to have a few folders with preset sounds, and for the rest a folder for every beat or track, containing the samples, programs and sequences.

Now on the 1k, everything is placed in alphabetic order on my HD. Now I have my folders with preset sounds, a folder with drumsounds (this folder containing a kick folder, snare folder, drumline folder etc.) a beat folder (containing all my folders with beats) and a folder with different samples. Different folders for strings, one for keys and one for bass.

Menco-- You don't save your (fully pimped out) drum programs seperately??

You mean like a template with my favorite drums?

No, for every beat I make a new drumprogram. I layer my drums and tweak and finetune them differently for every beat.

So I save my drumprogram in my beatfolder. Let's say funkydrumprogram will be saved together with the funkydrums sequence, funkydrums loopsample program and my funkydrumsbass program in my funkydrums folder. Then I only have to load the funkydrums folder, instead of each program and each sequence seperatly.

Yeah, I usually try to create a big "perfect" drum program, with the idea that I can keep coming back to it in the future.

Creating a new drum program for every project probably makes more sense though, since it encourages your drums sounds to be constantly improving and progressing.
