Midi overdubbing issue

Hi.

I've been using my MPC500 with a Roland jv1080 and a keyboard. When I record some notes on a track and then go to overdub, the recorded notes drop out and cut off. When playing back the sequence, it's still the same - the notes cut out. I've tried all manner of things but it still does it. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there anything I can do about it?

Are the program on the synthesizer monophonic? That could be it.

No, it's not that, ther sounds are poly. The exact same set up works with other sequencers.

Is this happening when the recorded note goes across the sequence loop?

It's happening all the time, throughout the sequence. I'll give some more detail and describe an example of what happens:

I'll record some notes using the external keyboard into the MPC500, track one, set to output to midi channel 1. This will be in a 2 bar sequence. The sequence will play back no problem. Now, if I try to overdub onto the same track, same midi channel, the previously recorded notes will cut out when I play notes on top. During playback, the cutting out still occurs. If I use another track, set to midi channel 1, the same thing occurs. Using another midi channel is fine, but using the same one causes this cutting out. Overdubbing using the pads is fine, but I need to be able to use the keyboard.

it might be something to do with the note on parameter (try setting it to one shot), just a wild guess since ive not tried what you are trying yet

Solved, I think!

It appears that the keyboard I was using as a controller was sending random CC data out when I played it, and this was affecting the operation of the MPC.

Thanks eimer! I was pulling my hair out over this, and I haven't got a lot of it left as it is! It just wasn't making sense to me, as everything else in the MPC500 seems to work really well.
