How do YOU chop up your samples on the MPC?

I just got my MPC 500 and I'm a little confused as to how to slice my samples on it. I don't want to slice my samples on the computer and load them, or else I'd just use software to make my beats... Do I have to load the same sample to multiple pads and adjust the start/stop time of each pad? I'm confused as how to make chops on the MPC... please enlighten me!

If you're going to copy same loop on multiple pads and then trim them, you can 'discard' the parts outside trimming points from the edit of trim options.

I usually just set loop on one pad, trim a part of loop then 'extract' it from the edit of trim options and set another pad for this, then go back to original loop, trim another part, 'extract' it, back, another part, 'extract'..umm..etc :)

just breakdown and use your computer to chop man, its not that hard....i do it that way and i chop tons of samples at once then just easily load them to the compact flash. Use Audacity, its free, very easy....if you wanted a machine to chop samples you should have gotten the 1k!!!

and just how do you chop beats in Audacity? is there a special "chop beat" tool or do you do it manually hit-by-hit? i am not trying to be daft, but i have been using Audacity for a while and have never found a simple "beat chopping" button or drop-down like there would be in Recycle. any help would be great. thanks...

Hey dude, I use Ableton 7s chop feature to chop by beat (or whatever you want) and then load across onto the pads, it's massively accurate, saves a ton of time, but yea it's going to cost you over Audacity, but you can chop a massive ammount of samples per hour this way so in the long run its worth it :wink:

Just do it, chop to your hearts content ans stop looking for a "chop button". It's not even like that. Highlight what you want and save that selection, that's the most basic sense of chopping.

USE AUDACITY! All you do is highlite the wav portion of the song you want and simply export the .wav file to your MPC!!! Damn - this is simple. i find it even easier than doin it on the mpc 1k - you can enlarge the .wav form on Audacity and get direct start and end points.....JUST TRY IT! and dont base on what you do on what everyone else does....do you!
