Midi out vs. USB????

what up new here....

So does the mpc 500 only send out midi data via the midi out cable? I assumed that it could be used as controller with only the usb cable but from what i am reading and testing it seems to only send out midi data from the midi out cable not usb.

I can connect via usb and drag and drop samples to my computer and mpc but when it's connected via usb my software does not seem to get any midi info when i hit the pads(I have assigned midi note values to the pads but nothing shows up in software on cmputer).

Any help is much appreciated.

Your mpc500 manual will tell you exactly what the usb is for. Why haven't you read it? :D

uh i did read the manual and it does not explictly say usb port does not or does transmit midi data. It's a simple question bro....why u wanna trip?

Obviously this question isn't for you since u think everybody chooses to not read the manual. I was just trying to get some feedback from more experienced users.

My point is i think that is a pretty lame feature of the mpc if it doesn't transmit midi data via the usb port. I have other devices that have both midi out and usb ports....AND they all transmit midi data via the usb AND midi ports. I was hoping to have to buy a 1x1 midi-usb cable (which cost like $40) so i could use it as a controller.

How am I trippin, cause I mentioned "the manual"? U high. Don't tell me what I think, u don't know.

Your question was public.

It's not in the manual cause it doesn't do it.

Like I said, the manual tells you what USB is specifically for. It doesn't tell you what it doesn't do.

500 doesn't wash dishes, that's not in the manual either though. :P

Wow wow, calm down dudes! It's a really good idea to read the manual, and yes it specificly tell you what the USB is for. If you don't have the manual, goto akai pro.

I don't wanna quell your thirst for knowledge dude.

Just try to learn your machines basics from the manual and get a hold of that.

Look i have read the manual. I know how to assign midi notes to the pads, i know how to load samples from computer to mpc and vice versa.

My sincere apologies for not being as intelligent & EXPERIENCED wit an mpc as you are and overlooking this in the manual. I was hoping that i was missing something....

As i said i was just trying to ask headz that are more expereienced than i.

My lil pea brain assumed that the mpc 500 could transport midi data via usb...It's very basic....So no i am not trying to make the 500 do miracles (It's 2008 yall!).. Transferring midi via usb is pretty important if u want your product to be viable in the digital age!

So i gotta drop some extra money to buy a midi 1x1 usb cable.....that's wack...but whatever this is a nice little machine and i think it will be a better controller for Serato than an axiom 25....So i will try it because it has alot of potential in terms of creating a midi sequence to play in serato....

I aint mad yall....I'm just sayin'

Nah, no apologies nec, as sarcastic as you sounded, cool, cause I'm sarcastic as well, so I appreciate the comeback. :lol:

You and SOOO many people are right to want it but it just aint happening with the mpc.

Moving along then, if you have something that isn't covered in the manual or you need more clarification into something in the manual that u don't get, shout out and maybe someone can shed some light on that for you.
