Save your project?

Hi guys...
is there any way to save your setting under certain file or program or whatever?

I have 3 songs and that I use MPC500 with as a sampler only...
every song requires different tuning, so when i load a song on the PC, then i have to change the tune of certain samples..
is there any way to save the tuning of my samples under different names, so that way i dont have to tune my kits or sample set to match my songs??

Or tuning it in the Sample mode instead of Program mode might work, I'm not sure because I've never had to do it.

thanks brother, but the problem is if i use many samples, it won't fit in my ram, so i was wondering if there is a way to SAVE my settings within a program or project or however its done...
certain keyboards or drum machines has this thing called performance and performance gives you let's say 1 thru 100....so basically it uses the same sound with different effect settings , basically you can do make the PCM or sound the way you like it and then you can save it under certain names, basically it remembers all your settings!!

Why don't you just save them as programs? Tune it in program mode and save it as a program. Reload your samples after restarting the machine and repeat for a different tuning.

Either I misread your question last time or this time, but it should be an easy fix either way.

thanks brother...that's what i was gonna do, but when i try to save it as a program, then it doesn't give me the option to save it under a different name, when i try to save it as program, then it gives me the option to save it under PROGRAM01 , which i've already chosen for a different song....

with different machines and or samplers, when you modify a kit or a program, then you can save it under a different name, which is not gonna affect your original program...

how do you save it under a NEW program?

A) rename the program before it goes to save mode (in PGM mode)
OR
B) create a new folder while in save mode (all of my programs are called Program 1, they're all in different folders) just spin the wheel when you're saving it, not sure exactly where, you'll be able to figure it out.

I did rename one of my programs to SONG12, changed the tunes of them and saved it under SONG12, but when i load it, there are NO samples...when i try to load it with samples , then it goes back to original tunes and settings ...
manual doesn't explain well...

if you got a chance and you are in front of your MPC500, please write the simple steps(1 by 1) , so i can follow and solve this problem.....

You do understand one of the key components of a sampler is the samples?
So until you save a sample it's not a sample.
If you make changes in a sample then it becomes a different sample so if you don't save it the changes don't really exist.

You have to tell a Program to save with Samples in order to have it load with the new samples.
Problem then becomes if you don't create a new folder it will want to rewrite the existing sample that you made the changes to.

Best way to save is by creating folders and saving all the memory to a song specific folder.


Drum machines and workstations have compressed data source that it references to create sounds most samplers use redundant data sources.
Some samplers use the non-destructive sample editing which allows them to reference the data source instead of being redundant.
The ASR-10 and the MV's are two such units.

That's because you are using the Auto Load function which is loading up whatever you have in the Auto Load folder, which eats up memory 16 or 128mb.

Hello dear friend and thanks for the help!!
I totally understand the concept of sampler as well as the sample itself..
but my my problem is, when i am done with tuning my samples, then i obviously want to save them in a different folder or anywhere, where it can be saved, but the problem is , it doesn't give me the option to save it under different program or save it in a different folder, where its not gonna touch the original samples...
So, please be kind and tell me how and where to create the NEW folder and what are the steps, that i have to take to have the same samples with different tuning....so i could use different kits for different songs!!

I don't have my MPC by me, but it's not hard to figure out how to make a new folder when saving.

Do what you'd do normally when saving a program and it should say 'Save To' and you can change that to 'New Folder'

ok, so you are saying to create a folder anywhere , possibly in the root directory
and save everything there or program or just samples ??

man, i am very confused here....each folder has a file in it and each file has a set of samples???
please someone help here !!!

let's say i loaded a program called PROGRAM01, which is the name, i change the pitch and etc, now i press mode>>save>>????

There's other ways to do it, but let's keep it simple.

LOAD and SAVE in 'Projects' - this saves everything, and loads everything. Programs, sequences, come with it.

Just save each program (yes with your pitch changes or whatever you want to do) as a different program in different folders.

I don't see what you don't get.

thanks again for the help as well as our other buddies who helped us here with our issues..
there were many confusions with saving my samples , after reading all this here and talking for over 30 mnis with akai tech support, i learned one way to save my samples, just like some1 said "Rename the pgm and save" that is the way it works at least...
BTW, saving the whole project, i believe will over writes the old project..
the funny thing is that sometimes NO sound comes out of the sampler, its becoz the NEW renamed pgm is set to play from a different track!!

Save shit to different folders and you won't have this problem.

I have over 30 programs all named "Program 1" and I have 0 problems, because they're in different folders and I only have one loaded at a time. I really can't see what you're having problems with.

Save every beat to a different folder. This includes it's programs, samples, and sequences. I don't think you'll have any problems if you do this.
