Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

I got some upgrade ram from an ebay store and it says compatible with the 500, 1000, and 2500.

I installed it in my 500 and I keep getting nothing but errors/crashes. When I start it up it says 128 MB, so I know it installed correctly, but why all the errors? It works just fine again when I take it out. I even upgraded the OS to the latest version and it's still doing it. If i play around with some pads an error will pop up, and if i go to trim mode an error pops up about 75 percent of the time. What is wrong?

Should I try going with a different ram brand to see if that's the problem?

I dont know about using a third party stick because mine came installed. But the first thing I would do personally is hit up the ebay seller. If he guaranteed you a compatible RAM, then thats what you should have gotten and it sounds like its either bad or not compatible.
I'm under the impression that although there are many ram sticks with the same specs, not all of them will work. The person who sold it to you may have sold you a stick with the right specs, but is only assuming that its compatible because of the specs and might not have actually tested it in an MPC. A bulk reseller might just check to see if the ram is good, although they may not even do that to save on the labor and just intend to replace anything that gets returned. Have them either replace it with another one, maybe a different brand, or get a refund.

You should also ask this question in the ram recommendations sticky at the top of the forum and make sure to mention the brand, the seller and link to the auction.

The reason why it keeps resetting is because the memory stick is loose. This also happend to me and wut I did was put a piece of plastic so the memory stick is in place...I dont know why this happens, I called MPC and told them of the problem and told me that there is nothing wrong with the MPC itself. I think its just cause the RAM slot is so cheap..Hope that helps!
