Hey I am 100% sure I am getting a 500 just wanted to clarify If the list below has the right accessories for it.

MPC500 from NovaMusic(I want a new one, and from the forums it looks like they are the cheapest)
256mb kingston memory
2GB SD Card

**Also besides the obvious manual have any of you tried the mpctutor for the 500? Just curious if it would be worth the $ to speed the learning process along**

And let me know if I forgot anything obvious..

It has 12 velocity and pressure-sensitive rubber MPC pads. 16MB of memory comes standard and can be expanded up to 128MB.

You're good to go except MPCs use CF not SD. And I've never tried tutor but I learned fine without it.

yea get cf card instead. i got the mpc500 tutorial e-book and found it was great. natually i didnt like reading the 500 manual, i mean it was ok and i could have learnt just by reading it, but it was too 'manual and technical like' for me, which is fine, but the e-books are written in an easier to read manner. plus, there are audio examples and everything so u can follow everything that is being taught unlike the manual. i would highly recommend it, its definately worth it. the only gripe i have are the numerous spelling mistakes which takes away from the professionality of the whole thing. other than that its great

also the 256 will only show up as 128mb ram

Thanks for the tips! any recommendations on where to buy(I want it new)? nova music has the 500 for around 480$ with free shipping. I read a bit about akai's memory and it seems like a lot of bullshit mark up, looks like I will have to buy some other separately online, any place ya'll dealt with before you recommend?

I bought the laptop memory everyone recommended and it didn't work for me, I had to buy the Akai marked-up one, but it works great.

If you want your 500 ASAP and have a Guitar Center near you, bring them an ad of the cheapest 500 you can find and see if they'll match it.

Unless you had a different experience G center will only match the price of any brick and mortar store of which I know of none that are cheaper than Nova music

I got mine for cost after talking to the manager long enough, but that was because they screwed me over on another purchase.

I don't remember how cheap but I think it was $399, and this was a while ago (6 months ago, my 2nd MPC 500). They're allowed to be flexible on their prices, there might be a way to make them lower it to Nova, but I have no idea.

I brought in a print-out of the recommended RAM thread to a local computer shop and let them figure it out. They gave me the 3 different kinds that "matched" (according to them) and none of them worked. Although, a lot of people have gotten it to work and it's a lot cheaper so don't let me steer you away, just know that it's not as guaranteed to work as the Akai branded one.
