Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

I have the memory expanded to 128mb and everything. I load up some relatively intensive samples (as in maybe 6-7 5 second long samples) and record them on separate tracks. I notice while listening to the finished beat that certain samples will cut off during playback - a 5-second piano sample will cut off after 3 seconds.

If I mute another track, the piano will play through at its full length. If I mute the piano, the bassline will play fine, but I can't get them all to play together without cutting off. It's like they recorded fine, but it's too much for the MPC to play more than a few tracks at once? What gives? And no, I don't have mute group enabled, although it plays like it.

I believe it has to do with the 32-voice polyphony limit the MPC has. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if you have 16 stereo samples playing at once, that's your 32 voices right there. If you look at the specs for the mpc, it says 32-voice polyphony pending processing...I believe that any effects added adds to the number of voices you have playing.

I looked elsewhere on the net and found this info.

Don't forget the MPC500 is different from other MPC's and doesn't have true 32 voice polyphony.
Akai states it has 32 voices depending on processing, originally I thought it referred to using the effects but it seems more like it's CPU related.
:?
I have done sequences on the 500 that would always choke out but they play fine when I load them into the 1k.

Oh shit. So what about the scenario below?

Simultaneously playing back three or four sequenced MIDI tracks on a synth module, playing some mono drum hit program (live on the pads) and maybe having a couple stereo loops playing? Could it handle that all at once?
