midi help

hello

just got my mpc500 a while ago and i quite like it despite being really minimalistic.
ok and there is that thing that i need help with. SO i have been trying to record notes with midi keyboard while having one particular sample loaded into memory. the point is to be able to record a melody into a pattern using the single sample attached to whatever pad A1 for example, just like recording with 12 pads themselves (12 level tune option) just having more than one octave at a time. the question is if it is possible to play one single loaded sample over entire midi keyboard??

it should be sounding silly and the sampler should probably have an option like that still i haven't managed to do that .

help anyone?

No it is not possible to virtually span a single sample across the octaves and play it with a MIDI keyboard like 12-tunes mode. Pretty ridiculous isn't it? A sampler, cannot even automatically prepare a sample to be played across a keyboard. The reason why these things don't exist is because a large percentage of Akai's market don't do any instrumentation and only trigger one-shots. If there were more people using it as an actual sampler used to be, then they'd never get away with not allowing auto-pitching across keys. Also, they cripple the 500 to make you want to buy the 5000.

You have to manually assign the sample to each pad, and adjust the pitch, which sounds horrible because it doesn't do timestretching so the duration is way shorter as the pitch goes up.

ah i got it - i have to make a new program consisting of one sample manually pitched to whatever note i need, and assign it to every seperate pad. pretty complicated . and keyboard is also pretty much useless then

If you have patience it can be done by loading the sample on all 48 pads, re-pitch them and assign them to the correct keys on your Midi keyboard.

You can the reuse the program in the future. Then you would just have to load new samples.
