CF Card Issue

Hey all,

Love my 500 but a problem has cropped up...

A few weeks ago the CF card started behaving weirdly, corrupting the contents and ended up not working at all. When I put it in the machine the whole thing would freeze up, but when I ejected it the MPC would work fine. So I thought it could be the card, so I bought a new one...exactly the same thing is happening!

The initial card was the 128mb Akai one that came with it. The new one is a Sandisk 2gb CF as recommended on this forum.

Any ideas?! I've emailed tech support at Akai, they're trying to ring me but can't figure out how to ring a UK mobile from the US at the moment!

Eeek...don't think so initially but I have since. It works for about 30 seconds and I can transfer a few wavs over but then it all screws up, the MPC freezes and I have to eject it. Then all the files are corrupt when I connect back to my laptop or it wont read it at all.

I know it is a stupid question but are you pushing it in enough (now that sounds weird ) Else try and clean the slot, could be there is some dust on one of the connections.

Dust? Hmmm, if it's something as simple as that I will kick myself in the nuts...

I'll try the old "NES Cartridge" trick and give it a good blow (ooo err). I think I'm going to try reinstalling the firmware if I gives me the chance to copy it over.

Yea thats not a bad idea, make sure to put the newest os on there. You can download it from the Akai website.

Well, re flashed the OS and ***touch wood*** all seems to be working now...let's hope it stays that way!

More evidence for my theory that reflashing that OS every now and then can only help.
Lord knows I have to reinstall windows at least once a year just to keep it in tolerable condition.
