Just installed 256 stick of ram !

Tonite I got home to find that I had received my ram in the mail while I was at work. First thing I did was look up a video on how to install since I've heard horror stories of people breaking the plastic clips on the ram slots. Found a nice video on youtube for the 1k. Glad I looked up the video which made this process a snap.

Next I did a forum search, I had been doing my research and remember someone posting about a ram test in the Ram/CF sticky. Took me a second, but I found the post. I did the test & got the green light that everything was good.

Went to my boys & we started sampling sounds we thought were good. I can believe how nice it is not having to save but once at the end of the night !

I've had the 500 for over a year now & regret to say that I let it collect dust for most of that time. I lost motivation to learn how to use it after I realized that I wasnt going to be knocking out any Primo/PR/Large Pro/Dilla/Madlib beats anytime soon, ha ha.
We've only co-produced on a handful of beats & still have no clue what were really doing. The good news is I'm using my 500 more then ever (pretty much daily these past couple weeks) and learning and having fun in the process.

Does it actually say 256mb on startup?

Naw it only reads half. So its 128 sorry for the confusion.

When installing the ram chip you just gotta use feather fingers, that's all it is to it


I bought a 128mb ram from Kingston and it reads ALL 128mb, I still haven't figured out why peeps are bein told to get the 256mb?

Need more RAM. Now!

i was the same. i bought the mpc thinking it was gonna be a breeze to just bang out beats straight away.. was disappointed at first, and it collected dust in my closet for a year. then i found these forums, and got into learning it slowly, and now i love it more than ever!

ALOT of people have this impression, I think it's due to the youtube videos. They see people bustin fingaz on the pads and assume it's that easy.

Sinamatik - Glad to hear someone else was in the same boat. I dl'd the mpc tutorial which helped get me going . Im sure I only retained 10 percent of it but it was enough to get me started & made things easier when I have to refer back to the MpC instruction manual. I still refer to it when I have questions or when i wanna make sure im doing something the best/correct way.

man to be honest, i didnt have the patience to sit down and read the manual that came with the mpc. i just bought the mpc500 tutorial ebook from this site, its the BEST money ive spent. its all i needed, i learnt so much from that ebook, and it explains things in a easy to understand manner. i still havent really read a page of the original manual, the ebook explains it all. highly recommended

read the 500 manual once and got it down easy. but every once and awhile, i'll look something up in it.

to the OP, exactly what type of ram chip did you get and for how much?
