mpc 500 and ableton live

hi,

im wondering if i can use the mpc 500 to work on songs from ableton live?
so, is it possible to exchange songs between the two

for example; i have a basic song with a couple of tracks,
can i load up the track in the mpc and work out a song structure,
which i can then upload on my pc and use in ableton?

The entire project files are not interchangeable (if that's what you mean), but anything you record in Ableton saved as a .wav file can obviously be imported into the MPC for playback. I'm not sure if you can load .mid files into the 500. I use the 500 as the master sequencer/clock for Live so I've never needed to.

How do you find the sync? I've been using Live 7.0.10 and 7.0.15 recently, and the timing either slips or the sync gets dropped. Pooh.

What interface're you using?

already thought they wouldnt be entirely interchangeable, so yeah, i thought that maybe you can convert the main bass synth and other instrument lines into .wav which you made in ableton and then import them into the mpc for playback. then, while doing that, work out the drum sequence into a entire song, based on the synth and bass riffs that you ve played back in the mpc.
but is it then possible to upload the mpc drums into ableton, in midi, or can you just record them as audio in ableton?

ive been looking on youtube to find out how to sync ableton with the mpc and found this vid

(he uses an mpc 4000, but i guess/hope it will practically be the same with the mpc 500)

Thx, hombre. I think you got the wrong end of the stick there, though. The problem is no syncing the two units (Live and the MPC); it's actually keeping them in time/sync. Live (7.0.10 on Mac OS 10.5.5) consistently drops the sync connection with the 500, and I can't find a decent reason for it.

Bother.

Never mind, though. I'm steering away from the computer for now in favour of the MPC and an Electribe!

Killer!!! You know which electribe your getting???? I use the esx1 combined. destructive sound!!

Most of the time I'm using Ableton as a glorified plug-in host and effects unit with the MPC500 as the master clock/sequencer. It works great when sequencing hardware and plug-ins through Live. Virus TI editor is [finally] steady and the Eclipse and Sherman sync beautifully.

If I use the MPC's clock while recording clips in Ableton, I'll get BPM measurements that are just slightly off. When I'm just doing drums with Stylus and Reaktor, or capturing loops for Recycle or loading into the MPC I use Live's internal clock.

I'm using the 2X2 set of MIDI ports on an RME Fireface 400.
