Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Looked through the manual and these forums for quite some time. How do I prevent samples in one sequence from overlapping into the next? What I mean is, I could have like 6 or 7 samples being used in my Sequence. At the end of the sequence, the drum pads I have assigned fit into the timing correct and tempo of the sequence perfectly, and flow seamlessly into the next sequence, both while listening to the single sequence and in Song Mode. The problem is the other pads I am using, which sort of drag-on after the sequence has ended, overlapping the next sequence. I hope there is a way to fix this without scrubbing this song I have been working on for a while. I get annoyed with simple things that may be easily fixed, and then I don't touch the MPC for a while. A little help??

I'm not 100% sure what the problem is, but I guess you simply want some samples to stop playing when you change the sequence.

I think that, besides trimming and chopping, there are a couple things you can explore:

1) Try changing the "Truncate dura." parameter in Sequence mode to "Sequence end" (see page 24 of the manual for reference).

2) Set the Play mode for those pads to "Note On" (Program mode - page 74). This way, you have to keep the pad pressed for as long as you want the sound to be played, but that allows you to cut the sound off at the end of the sequence by just releasing the pad.

I have tried that, but the problem I am talking about is after the fact. Will changing the pads to "Note On" effect recorded data, or will I have to re-record the whole Project :?:

Go into mode, hit program, scroll to playback it will say all ur pads are on poly. Change them to mono. Results = no more stupid annoying overlapping your samples. Problem solved.

Nope. Tried that - from Poly to Mono; even changed the pads I didn't use at all.

I guess he means that the sounds overlap when u change to another song or beat.

Assign these samples to a mutegroup. Take a blank pad, assign it to the same mutegroup, and place it on the last step in ur sequence or song. That way all ur samples will be muted at the last step of ur song/sequence before changing to another.

(u can also use mute targets)

my only guess would be is that either 1, your samples are too long or 2, your samples are too long because your bar count is too short, if its set to 2 change it to 4

maybe that helps my dude

Ok, I'll give that a try, too. Maybe I shouldn't have the Sequence on loop until I listen to the whole thing without Loop. If I get it to work, I'll upload it or send the link. If it doesn't, I will dig out my NES and Sega Genesis and give thanks for the simpler things in life.

Piece.

I have used Mute Groups, but I am not familiar with the Mute Targets. I read about them a little in some of the 2500XL and 1000 forums, but I never used them myself. Are they both the same thing?
