CONVERTING SEQUENCE AS A LONG SAMPLE

I know how to convert a sequence on the mpc 500 into a long sample in a wav. file but I only have limited recording time of about 30 seconds when my songs are much longer than that. Is it possible that i can get more recording time, or is 30 seconds the maximum? please help

128 megs makes more sample time.
12 minutes + in stereo.

Finalizing your edits clears unused memory that will give you more sample time.

You can sample for as long as the amount of memory you have left.
So there's no trick thats gonna make you have more memory left than you actually have.

You could resample in Mono for double the amount you would have in stereo.



If your trying to record your song to transfer it into your computer for burning to a cd or putting on an MP3 player or something there is a trick that I use for that:

Resample your song a piece at a time, 30 seconds in your example, and save each resampled 30 seconds onto your CF.
Then delete it out of memory to make sample room again.

Then transfer all the pieces into your computer from the CF card and use a wave editing software to reassemble them.

Wait what do you mean by finalizing my edit? Sorry I just got this thing so I'm not so clear on what certain things mean

Its called discard on the MPC.


Its underneath the edit sample menu.


It discards the extra bits of the sample in front of the start point and after the end point to reclaim that sample memory.

Also set your sample endpoints if you havent.
Some people dont set the end point on a sample and just let the samples cut each other off at the right time. Setting end points and making them final will reclaim more memory.


If you have not done those things yet then you may have a lot more resampling time than you thought.


And if you save the resampled sample by itself to the CF and not the whole memory than it wont save the discarded sample points so they'll still be there and you can still adjust them next time you reload.

If you don't have the memory upgrade you should get it, you can get them dirt cheap, you might wanna check out mpcstuff.com

or if nothing else at least get a recording interface something like a lexicon alpha its like 95 bucks or so. I bet there are plenty of other recording interfaces you can go get, but that's the one I have, and if you got that you would have to download the asio drivers for it. Then u would be all set man, you will be able to finish your beats and then some. Tat is if you have a program to track your beats out in. I use adobe audition 1.5 (It's outdated I know but if it aint broke don't fix it!) Whatever works for you.

Aight thanks man i think i know what the problem is but i just wanna make sure, i moved all the files i from the mpc onto my computer and completely cleared the cf card on the mpc (of all stock samples/sequences etc.) but after i cheacked the free recording time with nothing on the mpc is was still only 56 seconds. The cf card i have right now is the 128mb which comes wth the mpc. Does this mean i need to just buy a cf card that holds much more memory?

Nah fam.
It's not the cf memory,
you need to get the on board memory upgrade.
It's located where you put the batteries. You gotta buy the upgrade separate from the mpc, look around for a cheap one I'm pretty sure someone knows a dedicated site for dirt cheap memory if not mpcstuff.com Or if you don't want to buy one (I think that would be foolish) you definitely need to get a recording interface to track out your beats in.

take it to where ever u bought it from

if u bought it brand new (probably guitar center) that's where i got mine
i took mine to guitarcenter and let them service it.

they installed it for free.
