mpc500 as a midi sequencer

Hi i have just recently purchased a microkorg xl and was thinking about gettin an mpc500 as a companion for my synth. the main thing i am concerned about is if the mpc500 would make a good pattern sequencer for my microkorg if needed. I am kinda thinking about just waiting to get an mpc100 but am really just looking for portability (hence the battery powered microkorg) and other comments or user experiences would be great!

One of the biggest values is the midi sequencer in any MPC. You'd need to fidget around with settings to get midi out from the korg into the MPC and then out from the MPC back into the korg again, but it certainly isn't rocket science. Once you get them both configured properly you can then use the Korg keybed to play your parts, record them into the MPC... quantize your notes as necessary and then have the notes sent back to the korg so you can have the MPC play it for you.

It takes a little bit of getting used to and knowing the proper workflow, but there isn't anything too complicated about it. Once you've got it, you'll be able to use your pads or keybed to lay down beats/bass/leads in no time.

thanks alot guys. yeah now i'm thinking i'm gonna go with the mpc1000 for sure. i have ableton and a mpd32 that i use right now for beats with a few other midi controllers, but i'm looking for something more self contained that i can have in my living room when i don't feel like running upstairs during spurts of inspiration ha. plus switching on all my gear can be a pain haha. Another question though, i shouldn't have a problem plugging in my guitar to my mpc to record some riffs eh? like if i just had an mpc i could hook up mics and whatever else and do professional quality tracks right out of the box. sorry if i'm underestimating the mpc lolm, it seems like a really sick unit which is why i'm saving my pennies for one.

isn't mpc500 much limited as a sequencer for external gear since it doesn't send out MIDI sync timing? So maybe it can trigger notes, but effects would be off?

For the MPC 500 you can use the internal amp for a mic (and possibly guitar), but you're way better off using an external amplifier.

Also, the 1k requires an amplifier as it doesn't support plugging in a mic.
