Midi and pads

right wondering to buy a mpc 500 can you assign different patches from an external synth such as a microkorg or alesis micro for example to different pads and then it would send the program change message ect over midi

MPC won't send Prog Change messages when you play pads (see MIDI implementation chart in the end of the manual). However, MPC's sequencer has this functionality. Just insert Prog Change events on the track and it would send these messages while playing back the sequence.

You can dump the SysEx MIDI information from the synth onto the MPC and "play it back" into the synth when you want to change the sound, but you cannot do it by pushing one button.
