looping sample in mpc500

hello, i just got a new mpc500 and im trying to get my head around one little thing.

ive imported a guitar loop, around 4 sec long, and i wish to loop this sample by pressing one of the pads, once!
i found that i can loop this guitar-sample by changing the program mode to "note on" and changing the loop setting to "on" but then only if i continue pressing down my dedicated pad...

is this not possible on the mpc500? it would seem like a simple task but i cant find the right settings (if even possible)

Depends on your tempo, but usually you just hit the pad once and it plays the sample. To loop, you have to get the timing right and hit it again once it's over, or where you want to loop, but that requites setting the sample to mono.

cheers, so, it is not possible to hit the pad once for an endless repetitive loop?

no, i never heard of that possibility. would be nice though.

use the sequencer,

loop a sequence, turn on/off tracks while playing

or hit play start/stop to endlessly loop a singletrack sequence (eg guitarloop).

oki, hmm, annoying! seems like this would be one of the basic features in a sequencer.
ive heard of the jjos for the mpc1000 but its not compatible with the 500...

god damn, what should i do?
is there a work around?

There is a way of doing it - its just a shame the jackass who proofread the mpc manual thought best not to point out it wasn't there...

"It doesn't say in the manual, but after you trimmed your sample, set the Loop on. Then hold down the pad that has the sample and hold down the shift key. Your sample will loop endlessly without hands touching the 500."

great stuff, it works... cheers!
but must say that its a bit difficult to hit the buttons right (timing wise) to make it loop. would be great with a modification for this (just to hit one pad)... anyone out there who's a programming geek?

are there any other ways doing what im after?

JJOS doesn't solve this "problem" either though... you still need a sequence or other to cause the loop to trigger again. Unfortunately JJOS isn't a magic bullet for this feature.

hitting the pad to start the loop, hitting it again to stop it and so on ... in a way as you do with the one shot-function.

this would be nice.
