volume knob isn't working properly anymore

bought the mpc500 three weeks ago (used one). used it every day, worked almost perfectly (sometimes it plays the wrong sounds while hitting a pad, happened just a few times and i did not investigate further on that thing).

but now i got my first issue: cannot turn the volume down anymore. if i got the knob turned all the way down on MIN i get aprx. 90% sound volume of the 100% that i get when i got it all the way up on MAX.

did you have a similar/the same problem? what would you recommend me to do?

problem solved ... (so far)

after switching the power on and off a few times, loading different programs, using the mpc with and without batteries, banging on the pads, turning the knobs ...

the volume knob works perfectly again.

thats cool for the moment, hope, it never happens again. i'm an mpc user due to their reliability...

okay, happened again this morning

don't think it's a software issue. maybe there's some dirt in the box.
maybe i should remove the faceplate to see what's going on under this volume knob.

hey man.. same here. seems these things are poorly obstructed. i travel a lot with my 500. my volume knob acts up for like half a year now. some defective contact.. sometimes only the left comes through, i touch it very gently, only the right comes through, i touch it again, nothing comes through, i bang on it, it works again.. etc. i've removed the top plate but couldn't discover any visible defect or loose joints.....

It might be fixed by re-soldering the contacts. It is entirely possible that the knob got bumped and broke the solder joint enough that it sometimes makes contact and sometimes does not. This can be impacted by things like temperature/humidity and can be very difficult to assess.

removed the faceplate, couldn't see anything broke. works at the moment, but i'm sure the master volume problem appears again, which is very inconvenient.

The volume knob works by graduately grounding the signal causing it to fall in amplitude. It sounds to me as the potentiometer is defective or the solderings are bad/broken. Good luck.
