Advice before I buy one......

Okay, I've been stressing over whether or not I should buy an mpc500 and I really want one now. I've a regular user of fruity loops 8. ( so if there's a way to rewire it to work with fl I'll appreciate it) But anyways I would like to know what to get when I buy it and like what computer programs is best, and what do i need to hook it up to my computer and make everything sync by hitting the pads etc..... Thanks in advance.

If you're already asking about PC-integration, forget the MPC and get a pad controller. Not the Akai ones, people say they have stiff pads like the 500.

The whole point of an MPC is that it's standalone. Once you start trying to use it with Fruity all that magic is lost and you end up with headache.

by ur post alone, u just want the pads.....an mpc isnt for you. just get a controller, and stick with the FPC in FL .

here some advice...MAKE SURE YOU READ THE **** MANUAL!!!!

if your going to be using Fruity Loops, then the 500, let a lone any mpc, is not for you. if your going to be triggering sounds from Fruity Loops, then I'd suggest buying a MIDI controller, such as an MPD 32 or MPD 24. I dont use MIDI, but you'll need some type of converter like a MIDI-to-USB cable or a Midi interface that has a USB Connection.

to get the pads to hit on time when you trigger the sounds from Fruity Loops, I'd go with Firewire because Firewire has zero latency and when you use USB, they'll be a very small, but most of the time unnoticeable, delay from the time you hit the pad to the time you hear anything.

If your computer has a firewire port, definetly go with a firewire interface. if not, i'd look into maybe a Lexicon Midi interface, or something similiar.

most midi controllers now days have built in usb.

Korg Padkontrol is a really nice controller, the pads were MUCH better than the mpd16 I had before.

I have just got one, and being an avid Logic and Pro Tools user I still say get one. The main USP for me was you can take it anywhere with 6AA batteries...Genius.
Although you should consider getting an MPD or something similar if you are just going to be sat at home producing fire.

Hate to add to the derailment of this thread, but I just bought an mpc 500 and have noticed the pads are much stiffer than expected. not really a problem for me, but do the pads ever "break in"?
