Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Hi everybody,

Just bought an Akai MPC 500 and want to start MIDI sequence recording from my microKORG synth.

All MIDI cables in & out are correctly connected, slaved the KORG, mastered the Akai, followed every instruction in both devices' manuals, BUT there is one BIG problem:

In Progam Assign in Track Parameter mode, I cannot Switch to off! I can only choose between the three or four preset programs (Sunny, DJ HipHopset etc), and he puts a ? before the CDS program. OFF is simply not an option (although it says that it should be in the manual)

CONSEQUENCE: when I play the slaved KORG over my mixing unit for MIDI recording, drum sounds and samples get triggered if you hit certain notes, messing up the sequence I want to record.

QUESTION: can someone pls help me out on how to switch off the sound engine of the AKAI and start MIDI recording from my KORG?

Thank you!!!!!

Press the [TRACK] button to select the Main Track screen, the press [PARAMS] to enter Track params.

Change the Parameter you are viewing to Program assign, and change the value to OFF. This will disable the
internal sounds for this track.

Change the Parameter on the top line to MIDI channel.

Here, you set which MIDI channel the MPC500 will use to send MIDI data. You must set the same MIDI channels for
both the keyboard and the sound module.

Change the Parameter on the top line to Track type. Change this selection to MIDI.
