12 PAD MPC 500 vs 16 PAD 1000

Can anyone tell me if the 12 PAD mpc 500 vs 16 PAD mpc 1000 makes a BIG difference from a functional point of view?

depends on the user. I personally use complete banks with 16 pads and Im comfortable working with it so for me it would be a no go. but cats that start off with a 500 really shouldnt have too much of a problem since they arent used to anything else.

I dont know about that. I started out with a 500, and really wish it had 16 pads. It makes a lot more sense from a musical standpoint, 4/4 time X 4 bars = 16 pads. Also the tiny screen on the 500 kinda sucks. the 500 is by no means an inadequate machine, but if you have the money for the 1000 go for it, there is really no reason not to get it, unless you want to bring your mpc with you every where.

Thanks for the quick response. I did own a 2500 when it first came out and had to give it up. However, I am back again and looking to save some cash... I am waiting for my MPC 500 to ship any day now; ordered it.

As long as I can seq / sample like the 1000 or 2500 /, I think I should be ok!

yeah it will do a good job for that stuff.

that you cant do. The JJ os is not available for the 500. It is for the 1000 and 2500.

Can a higher capacity CF card be used, such as 16 or 32GB?

I've got a 32gb that works fine...

You can slam a MPD on it and you've got 16 pads . I have a MPC-1000 and a MPC-500 and the small one is not that bad at all!

Got both too... workflows are a bit different and they are both good at different things.

12 pad vs. 16 pad is probably less of the question.

Are you comfortable digging through menu's and knowing how to get things done with the smaller screen or do you like to see the waveforms and other output more.

I didn't like the 12 buttons at first, but I got used to it after I learned to use multiple programs.
Recently I've begun to use more pseudo keyboards though and I'm starting to think the 12 buttons is kind of neat.

12 buttons X 4 banks = 12 keys in 4 octaves or a 49 key midi controller.

The worst part about the buttons is the material used.
Very, VERY stiff.
A midi controller or swapping for 1000 pads seems like almost a must for any kind of fluidity past smashing drum sounds into loops.
