microphone plug in into my mpc 500 problem

hey again !

i have a question.
when i plug my microphone (its an good one i think) into my mpc its sounds strictly terrible, no clear sound etc. must i buy a mixer to tune up the sounding?

what kind of mic are you trying to use? you CAN mic to the MPC but I wouldnt imagine actually getting good results.

The MPC-500 is rather noisy. You will need some kind of preamp and keep the gain on the 500 at it lowest.

Yeah, found it workable for doing some field recordings that you'll re-record later... but not really final mix down quality.

I do record a mic directly into the 500 without a pre-amp. It is a little messy but it doesn't bother me. If you really want the best results I think a pre-amp is probably the smart bet. I usually have to futz with the sample after recording through the mic for it to be usable. Auto-level kinda helps.
